Confusing happiness with bodily pleasure, happiness with the satisfaction of instinct, is typical of animals, as Heraclitus explains in his fragments
Si felicitas esset in delectationibus corporis, boves felices diceremus, cum inveniant orobum ad comedendum (DK B4)
If happiness were in bodily pleasures, we would call oxen happy when they find vetch to eat
It seems to me that the majority, the masses, live in this confusion.
