In Dostoevsky's books, every character always tries his limit, the limit where he can push his folly. He ruthlessly, desperately, tries the limit of this folly. And above all, if a limit there is, then it is only a groundless abysm where you can be lost without limit. The folly is particularly highlighted by the obsessive excess of exaggeration.
