Through the window’s breach
Down and then rise to reach
Shining streets and flow sublime.
Downtown trains are full.
White pale girls hard try
Their world discard shy
And cross the light - pale and dull.
They wave their hands - like crows
Scatter - slow and grow around
They follow unpleasant sound
And see how grey all flows.
Nothing will capture their heart.
Like thorns are - without the rose.
Oh, if I were the one they chose
Happy, I would span the silent dark.
I know that window, I know it's late
I know the stairs and the doorway
I stand by the light at the four-way
I walk down past the gate and wait.
Will I see you tonight?
On a downtown train
Among other girls again?
Will I catch your dim sight?
Of my dreams, you fall away.
Alone, I am going nowhere.
Following the moon's glare
I lonely ride a downtown train.

PS. "Downtown Train" is one of my favourite songs. Tom Waits’ voice, or Rod Stewart’s voice singing it, is a melody that makes me dream. I needed to write something of my own. I needed to take it, flush it out, confront it, and return it to the world: my world
