From "Love, šaltibarščiai and red tomatoes" - The black days

Her favorite place in the house was the kitchen. In the kitchen she spent her days: she read, she prepared the dinner, she made calls, she wrote emails, she worked and cried, she laughed and thought. In the kitchen we made love, often. The kitchen was full of her self unlike any other part of the house. There (in the kitchen) she had erected her inner sanctuary, fortified her self and learned to esteem and trust in herself or how pleasurable was to torture herself on questions that could not be answered. She never wanted to share that space even with me. She housed me in that space but it remained exclusively hers. From every other space she excluded me in the black days of menstruation. Who was in those days the hidden Demiurge that broke the world and the space surrounding her? Did that Spirit decide for her and spoke for her? In those days it seemed that every thought of her mind had already been decided in spite of her will . Her thoughts no longer were direct to...

Entrambi erano stati fra i suoi luoghi preferiti. E Diego stava andando controcorre...

From "Love,šaltibarščiai and red tomatoes" - gimtoji kalba "Original language"

We were on the trolleybus number seven that afternoon.. We had taken it at the stotelė , bus stop, near the train station after leaving the restaurant. The trolleybus was freezing and almost empty. Perhaps driven by the cold and by her frozen feet because of the snow that was covering streets and sidewalks in Vilnius Austėja came closer to me, pulled me in and squeezed me so tight, and finally kissed me. That being (self) that until a few moments before had inhabited a private area and was a far stranger to me suddenly decided to open up in that kiss. I felt the disproportion between the silent being that had lived before when we were in the restaurant and what was disclosing to me now, the inequality between the being that I had perceived in the distance and the being that I perceived in the vicinity of the physical contact bred by her kiss. That kiss assumed the form of a point of union that seemed to invite us to reconciliation, understanding and reciprocity. - Pala...

Spie, intelligence e propaganda in Lituania.

Happiness islands - Laimės salos (An abstract from The End)

foto Živile Abrutytė She halted a moment to look at that sky, the sky above Vilnius and for the first time thought it was the most beautiful sky in the world. Perhaps for the first time she loved that country battered by people who wanted only her unhappiness and where nothing seemed to happen because people didn' t love changes in their gray lives. She gripped Rebeka's blonde little head and tightly pressed against her breast. She squeezed her hard enough to the point to maybe hurt her. She then felt her blood flowing into Rebeka's. But Rebeka was sleeping. The sky - she thought - is like a mother. She can be angry, but does not deny love for her children.

From "Šaltibarščiai love and red tomatoes" - My love didn't speak ezòpinė kalba

My love didn't speak ezòpinė kalba* . She was direct and stubborn in her decisions but I had changed her. She had become opened and softened. In a country where lying was necessarily the way of life or alternatively silence (not to say) was preferable to lying, she had began to trust me. Even though she frequently had relapses she trusted me now. She had prepared her favorite dish, šaltibarščiai . She wanted me to try it. She wanted to convey me all the love she had for things. Love is rooted in concrete things. Love is not born from commitment, but from unexpected. It starts from afar and continues in all possible directions towards a destination you will never know. She looked at me eating šaltibarščiai . She had an indecipherable look, sluggishness in her eyes however. Next to her, on the table, stood a copy of her favorite newspaper: Žmonės . A similar scene might make one think of a silly woman but she was not. She had deep feelings beneath the surface. A sensit...
