Why do misunderstandings arise between man and man, woman and woman, man and woman?
Porphyry explains it to us in his extraordinary book on Intelligibles (tenth Sententia),
We are composite beings, and we think compositely, and we are dependent on a composite environment, and each part of which the composite consists thinks, understands, and feels differently:
Πάντα μὲν ἐν πᾶσιν, ἀλλὰ οἰκείως τῇ ἑκάστου οὐσίᾳ" ἐν νῷ μὲν γὰρ νοερῶς, ἐν ψυχῇ δὲ λογικῶς, ἐν δὲ τοῖς φυτοῖς σπερματικῶς, ἐν δὲ σώμασιν εἰδωλικῶς, ἐν δὲ τῷ ἐπέκεινα ἀνεννοήτως τε καὶ ὑπερουσίως.
Non eodem modo intelligimus in omnibus, sed secundum propriam cujusque substantiam: nam in intellectu intellectualiter; in anima rationaliter; at in plantis seminative; in corporibus imaginarie; in eo quod super haec omnia est, supra citraque intellectum atque superessentialiter
